An estimated 100,000 pensioners in the North East (20 per cent) are living in poverty and struggling to afford essential household items, yet tens of thousands of North East older people aren't claiming the benefits the're entitled to. New research about how the voluntary and community sectors can work best with the Government is to be explored at a free seminar in Newcastle. The Commission for the Compact has organised five regional seminars in September and October to discuss the work, which identifies the key factors behind successful local compacts and positive partnership relationships. The Commission oversees the Compact, a framework that promotes partnership working between the Government, voluntary and community sector.
